I was immediately captivated by the straightforward storytelling, the gore-naturalism, the knowledge that any of the characters we've just gotten to know could be pulled out of the plot. I loved seeing people who, despite the hopelessness, keep getting up and moving on and who do it together with others. Despite death literally lurking around every corner, people tirelessly continue to build new societies and protect their group, vain but necessary. The parallel to real life is so obvious that it feels creepy to even point it out.
